Wetland management and conservation
Professor Bryony Coles and Professor Robert Van De Noort
Both Prof. Bryony Coles and Prof. Robert Van de Noort have a research interest in the management and conservation of wetland areas and their archaeological heritage. Waterlogged archaeological remains and their accompanying palaeoenvironmental evidence are affected by hydrological changes that may be brought about by different farming regimes, drainage systems, building developments and climate change. The wetland archaeological resource is also affected by industrial peat extraction.
Prof. Coles was author of the 1995 Wetland Management: A Survey for English Heritage and she has recently edited The Heritage Management of Wetlands in Europe with Dr Adrian Olivier for the European Archaeological Council. Robert Van de Noort is currently engaged on an English heritage project called Monuments at Risk in England's Wetlands.
